JYOTIRLINGS 12 SHIVA SHRINES IN INDIA

Shiva’s temples are found all over India – in dark caves, under trees, in forests and in magnificent temples- from Rameshwaram in the south to Kedarnath in the Himalayas. Also from Somnath in the West to Baidyanath in the East. The shivpurana has named 12 shrines as the “jyotirlings’ as it is said that Shiva is said to have revealed himself or his radiance to his devotees in the form of Jyoti i.e. light at these shrines. The 12 Jyotirlings are

1. Vishvanath in Varanasi
2. Srisailam in Andhra Pradesh
3. Mahakleshvar near Ujjain
4. Bhimashankar Near Pune
5. Kedarnath in the Himalayas
6. Omkareshvar in Madhya Pradesh
7. Somnath in Gujarat
8. Trimbakeshvar near Nasik
9. Nageshvar In Maharashtra
10. Rameshvar near Chennai
11. Ghrishneshvar. Near Aurangabad
12. Vaidyanath near Bihar

This book describes the temples,the history and the mythology behind each shrine and description of ceremonies and rituals . It will be a colourful coffee table book with beautiful photographs.
